Message from the Chairman of Hong Kong Arts Development Council

The Hong Kong.Shenzhen Creative Arts Festival is a major cultural exchange event of the two cities. The Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the two organisers, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality, and the Shenzhen "City of Design" Promotion Office, are committed to provide the most energetic, creative and diversified arts of Hong Kong and Shenzhen to audiences. The programmes are innovative and robust, enlightening the soul of contemporary arts amid displaying the prominence of different cultures, thereby illuminating the spirit of our times.

We firmly believe that artistic excellence depends not only on the talents and the hard work of artists. The availability of a platform for them to broaden horizon, share vision, and be inspired and inspirited is particularly important to shed artistic radiance.

This year's Festival will be held in Hong Kong. As a continuation of last festival's success, 8 programmes have been exclusively picked covering scopes of traditional and modern arts, visual arts and performing arts, featuring both experienced and budding Shenzhen artists. The Festival presents not only a valuable occasion for Hong Kong audience to have a flavour of Shenzhen arts and cultural development, but an unforgettable experience to appreciate the splendid performance of Hong Kong and Shenzhen artists. Throughout the Festival, Hong Kong arts lovers will be indulged with a sensation of experiencing the in-phase and distinction of arts and culture of two cities.

We appreciate the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality, and the Shenzhen "City of Design" Promotion Office in bringing the series of gorgeous programmes. We wish the Hong Kong.Shenzhen Creative Arts Festival to thrive and develop into an influential cultural brand of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, enabling citizens and artists of the two cities to communicate with each other thereby enriching city life through arts and culture.

Inheriting the distinguished culture of our motherland, Shenzhen and Hong Kong's intimate relationship is not only a geographical one. The gradual integration of the two cities' social and economic outlook brings along cultural interchange on a more frequent and cohesive basis. After the success of the previous Shenzhen.Hong Kong Creative Arts Festival held in 2012, this year in Hong Kong we will again see the Hong Kong.Shenzhen Creative Arts Festival jointly organised by the two cities, showcasing the most outstanding art programmes of Shenzhen.

The Hong Kong.Shenzhen Creative Arts Festival in 2014 is the first assemblage of Shenzhen's performing and visual arts to be held in Hong Kong in the history of cultural exchange between the two cities. The Festival has selected 6 performances and 2 exhibitions for presentation which reflect the artistic level of the city or perhaps even the nation. All programmes showcase to Hong Kong audiences not only the dual aspects of Shenzhen's traditional culture and modern creativity, but also her cultural characteristics as a young, energetic, and diversified city. To the arts professionals of the two cities, the Festival serves as the quintessential platform of artistry advancement by leveraging each other's cultural vision and exploring the scope of collaboration in the disciple of arts and culture. We sincerely hope that through the wonderful programmes of the Festival, audiences of Hong Kong will gain a broader understanding of Shenzhen as a young cultural rendezvous.

I would like to thank the Home Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and all the participating arts groups and artists of Hong Kong. I wish the Hong Kong.Shenzhen Creative Arts Festival a great success!
